Is this small talk course only for beginners?
No. While it’s a foundational training, professionals at any level can benefit from this small talk training. Team leads, project managers, and client-facing experts have found new ways to connect through modules on time management, leadership communication, and culturally appropriate small talk.
Can I take this course if I’m not based in India?
Yes. The course is open to global professionals working cross-culturally with Americans. We offer a self-paced online version (coming soon) and live Zoom sessions for teams across time zones.
Is the course available for individuals or only teams?

Content & Delivery

What kinds of small talk will I learn?
You’ll learn three types of small talk—personal, work-related, and polite—each with examples, acceptable and avoidable topics, and cultural insights. These are taught through scenario-based learning, helping you apply small talk naturally in meetings, presentations, demos, and everyday client interactions.
Will I get to practice during the session?
Yes—especially in live sessions, which include scenario-based role plays, reflection prompts, and peer feedback. Practice formats vary:

  • 3-hour sessions: Typically lecture-style. We recommend breaking these into three 1-hour sessions over 3 weeks so participants can try strategies in real meetings and share feedback in follow-ups.
  • 5-hour sessions (max 10 participants): Include prep time for role plays between sessions and live delivery with structured feedback. These are ideal for deeper skill-building and personalized coaching.
Can I practice with the self-paced version?
Yes. The self-paced version includes scenario-based examples, reflection prompts, and practice suggestions. However, it does not include structured feedback unless you purchase an optional 1:1 coaching add-on.
How long is the course?
Seminars run approximately 3 hours. Coaching sessions range from 4 to 5 hours, depending on your goals, team size, and desired level of interaction.
Is the course self-paced or live?
Currently, the course is delivered live via Zoom or in-person formats. A self-paced online version is in development and will include videos, downloadable resources, and optional feedback opportunities through coaching upgrades.

Outcomes & Impact

Will this course help me build better relationships with U.S. clients and colleagues?
Yes. This course provides practical tools, scenario-based strategies, and cross-cultural insights to help you build stronger relationships with American clients and coworkers. By applying small talk techniques incrementally, participants report:

  • Improved rapport and trust
  • Smoother virtual and in-person meetings
  • More inclusive and collaborative team dynamics
What if my U.S. client doesn’t make small talk?
Some American professionals may avoid small talk due to uncertainty, cultural sensitivity, or fear of saying the wrong thing—just like many non-Americans. This course helps you:

  • Understand why small talk may be missing and how to gently initiate it
  • Use the three types of small talk (personal, work-related, polite) to create natural entry points
  • Apply work-related small talk to build rapport through shared tasks—especially helpful for Indian professionals navigating high-context vs. low-context cultures
  • Learn how much small talk is appropriate at different stages of a meeting
  • Recognize acceptable, avoidable, and cautionary topics to maintain professionalism and cultural respect

This approach helps you connect not just personally, but through your work—making conversations feel more natural and less pressured for both sides.

Can this course help during onsite visits or relocation to the U.S.?
Yes. The training includes guidance for in-person interactions, body language, and inclusive communication strategies that are especially valuable during onsite client visits or relocation. You’ll learn how to:

  • Initiate small talk in hallway chats, lunch breaks, and team huddles
  • Use culturally appropriate gestures and expressions
  • Build trust through everyday interactions in U.S. work environments
