American Expat Living in Kochi, India

Today on October, 5, 2015, we celebrate the almost 4 year anniversary of Jennifer Kumar's debut in the Indian media, with a feature in the New Indian Express back on October 15, 2011.

Jennifer Kumar, the Managing Director of Authentic Journeys, a cross-cultural corporate training firm, is an American expat who has been living in India since 2011. Originally from a small village, with cows as neighbors in Upstate New York (not New York City), Jennifer has been featured in other Indian newspapers and magazines between 2011 and 2015 including The Deccan Chronicle in 2012 and 2014, the Malayalam family magazine, Vanitha in 2014, in Kerala IT News and Malayalam Manorama in 2015.

I always find my foreigness attracts a lot of attention in India. Coming from the U.S., where many find being foreign normal (it is supposed to be a country of immigrants and foreigners, after all), sometimes the attention can be flattering or overwhelming. Back in March 2011, we moved to India. About over six months later, a reporter from the New Indian Express, Mr. Shevlin Sebastian came to our home and interviewed me on various aspects of our life in India, how Krishna (my husband) and I met and what bought both of back to live in India. In Kerala. In Kochi. In Kakkanad.

So, here we are. Here I am. In this interview on the front page of the Matinee section of The New Indian Express. I appreciate Mr. Sebastian for his interviewing and writing talents. Thank you, Mr. Sebastian.

It’s also a little overwhelming to say the least, to share that front page with big names of Bollywood like Madhuri Dixit, Shah Rukh Khan and of course the Big B (Amitabh Bachchan). Don’t worry; I won’t let it get to my head!
